Table
A table from Excel or Google Sheets, calm and easy to read on the display.
From your organization the app reads: data-sources. The app calls no outside service.
This app needs no separate consent.

- For
- anyone who wants to show a table from Excel or Google Sheets on a display
- Prerequisite
- the installed app, the right to edit scenes, and an Excel table or a Google sheet under Data sources. For this, an Owner connects Microsoft 365 or Google first.
- Where in the portal
- Apps › Discover apps › Table. The widget is in the scene editor under News & info. You create the source under Data sources.
On this page
The Table app shows a table from Excel or Google Sheets: a staff schedule, a price list, occupancy, or an overview of key figures. The display shows it calm and easy to read.
What the app shows
The app comes with one widget: Table. It shows the table of a source of your organization. The app fetches nothing itself. Szenera fetches the file once and distributes the state to all displays, see Where do your apps get their data?. If someone changes something in the file, it appears on all displays after the next fetch. In the Data & access tab, the store therefore says under Reads existing data: “Data sources you choose for the app”. Without a network, the last state stays in place.
The widget shows what Excel or Google Sheets displays, so numbers and dates formatted as in the file. Above the table stand the title, then the header and the rows. Numbers are right-aligned in equal-width digits, so prices and values can be compared at a glance. The first column can be highlighted, such as the name in a staff schedule, and every second row sits on a soft tint.
If not all rows fit the frame, the table pages on at a calm pace. The type never gets smaller than readable. Columns that no longer fit are dropped from the right by the widget, and the editor tells you which. Making it wider never removes anything.
Four templates are ready:
- Board: the table in landscape with title, header, and every column that fits the width.
- Portrait: the same table for a display standing upright, with three columns in larger type.
- Tile: three columns in large type for a small area of the scene.
- Bar: four columns, one row per turn as a ticker in the form “Column: Value · Column: Value”, for the top or bottom edge.
Two examples: A workshop shows the staff schedule in its break room as a Board. A café puts the price list from a Google sheet next to the register as a Tile.
Set up the source
The table lives in a source. You create it once, and after that every widget chooses it from the list.
- Under Data sources, use Create source to create a source of the form Table: Excel table for a file in OneDrive or SharePoint, Google sheet for a sheet in Google Sheets.
- Choose the File or Spreadsheet, the Sheet, and, if the whole sheet should not appear, the Range, such as A1:D9. Leave First row is the header on if the table carries column headings. You pick a Google spreadsheet from your Drive with Choose in Google Drive, or you paste its address under Link to the spreadsheet and click Apply. Choosing in Google Drive is open only to the person who connected the Google account.
- Place the Table widget in a scene in the scene editor. In the Data tab of the settings window, choose your source under Source.
The steps in detail are in Create a data source and show it in a widget. Which connection the source needs is described in Connect Microsoft 365, Google, or Grafana.
Settings
Open the settings with the gear icon on the toolbar above the widget. They are on the tabs Content, Appearance, Data, and Playback. The toolbar also offers Template and Colors, plus the Background.
| Setting | Tab | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source | Data | The table from Excel or Google Sheets that the widget shows. Below it are connection, refresh, state, and Fetch now. | none |
| Title | Content | Stands above the table, at most 80 characters. Empty shows the name of the source. | empty |
| Show title | Content | The row above the table. In a very small frame, it drops out by itself. | On |
| Maximum number of columns | Content | The widget shows at most this many columns from the left, 1 to 12. What no longer fits the frame, it drops from the right. | 6 |
| Seconds per page | Playback | If not all rows fit the frame, the table pages on at this pace, 5 to 60 in steps of 5. In the bar, each row stays this long. | 10 |
| Colors and Font | Appearance | Style of the app, Brand colors, or Custom colors, plus the font. See Configure widgets. | Style of the app |
| Highlight first column | Appearance | The first column stands in bold, such as the name in a staff schedule. | On |
| Tint rows alternately | Appearance | Every second row sits on a soft tint, which makes reading across the width easier. | On |
| Background | Appearance | Light or Dark as a calm surface. Glass and Transparent let the background of the scene show through. | Light |
| Corners | Appearance | Rounded or Sharp. | Rounded |
You set file, sheet, range, and header at the source, not in the widget.
Limits
- Read-only. The app never changes your file. The table is still maintained in Excel or Google Sheets.
- One sheet per source. A source reads one sheet and, if you like, a range of it. For a second table, create a second source.
- At most 200 rows and 12 columns. Completely empty rows drop out. A cell shows at most 240 characters.
- Fetched at the interval of the source. A change in the file appears after the next fetch. The preset is every 5 min, and every 15 min, hourly, and daily are also available.
- The display does not fetch the file. It shows the state we distributed, even without a network. Access and keys stay with us.
- Columns drop out from the right, rows page. If the width is not enough, columns drop out from the right, and the editor names them. If the height is not enough, the table pages.
- Without rows, the area stays calm. At most “No entries right now” appears on the display.
If something goes wrong
| Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| In the editor: No source chosen yet., The chosen source no longer exists., or The chosen source does not provide a table. | No table is chosen, the source was deleted under Data sources, or it has a different form, such as posts. On the display, the area stays empty. | Choose a table from Excel or Google Sheets under Source. |
| In the editor: The connection to the source needs a new sign-in. | The provider rejected the sign-in. | Sign the connection in again on the Data sources page. |
| In the editor: The source is paused. | Someone paused the source. | Start it again on the Data sources page with Resume. |
| In the editor: The table is being fetched for the first time., The source is not responding right now., or There is no data yet. | The first fetch is still running, the provider did not answer, or the source has not delivered anything yet. | Wait a moment. If it persists, check the source and its connection on the Data sources page. The displays show the last state. |
| In the editor: The table contains no rows. | The range or the sheet is empty. | Add rows to the file, they appear with the next fetch, or check the Range at the source. |
| Columns are missing on the right. | The frame is too narrow, or Maximum number of columns is too small. | Make the frame wider, choose Portrait or Board, or raise Maximum number of columns. |
| The header appears as the first row of data. | At the source, First row is the header is off. | Switch the toggle on at the source. |
| Only a section of the table appears. | A Range is set at the source. | Clear or adjust the Range. |
| The widget cannot be inserted. | The app is not installed, an update is waiting for your decision, or it shows Not in your package. | Check the status under Apps (When an app does not run). |
