Dashboard
A dashboard, a panel or another view as a calm image on the display, captured by Szenera.
From your organization the app reads: data-sources. The app calls no outside service.
This app needs no separate consent.

- For
- anyone who wants to show key figures from Grafana, Power BI, or Looker Studio on a display
- Prerequisite
- the Pro package (otherwise the store shows From Pro), the installed app, the right to edit scenes, and a source of the form View under Data sources. It can be a Grafana dashboard, a Power BI report, or a Looker Studio report. An Owner connects Grafana and Power BI first.
- Where in the portal
- Apps › Discover apps › Dashboard. The widget is in the scene editor under News & info. You create the source under Data sources.
On this page
The Dashboard app shows a dashboard, a single panel, or the page of a report as a calm image, such as the utilization of a warehouse. The display gets no access to your dashboard for this.
What the app shows
The app comes with one widget: Dashboard. It shows a view as an image: a whole dashboard, a single panel, or one page of a report. Szenera captures the view and saves the finished image. For Grafana and Power BI it uses the access your organization stored in the connection, and Looker Studio needs no sign-in. See Where do your apps get their data?. The display loads only this image. It knows neither the access nor the address of the view and needs no contact with your dashboard. In the Data & access tab, the store therefore says under Reads existing data: “Data sources you choose for the app”. Without a network, the last capture stays in place.
Below the image stand the source and, if you like, the time of the capture, such as “As of 14:20”. For a capture from the previous day, it says “yesterday”, for an older one the date. The image is never distorted. Fit shows the whole view with a calm margin, Fill fills the frame and crops at the edges.
The widget arranges itself to fit its frame. If not everything fits, the title gives way first, then the time, and the source stays. Making it wider never removes anything.
- Full screen: the image across the whole scene, with source and time.
- Half: the image on half of the scene, with the title above the image.
- Tile: a single panel as a tile next to other content, with a title.
Three examples: A warehouse shows the utilization of its racks as Full screen in its break room. A business puts a single panel with customer satisfaction as a Tile next to the information at the entrance. An agency shows the Google Ads figures of the month from a Looker Studio report as Half at its reception.
Set up the source
The view lives in a source. You create it once, and after that every widget chooses it from the list.
- Prepare the access. For Grafana, ask an Owner to connect Grafana under Settings › Organization › Connections with Set up connection. The Owner enters the Grafana address and the Key of a service account with the Viewer role. For Power BI, the Owner connects Microsoft 365 with As the organization service account, and your Power BI administrator releases the workspace (Release Power BI). A Looker Studio report needs no connection, only the sharing “Anyone with the link” (Release Looker Studio).
- Under Data sources, use Create source to create the source. For Grafana, choose the Dashboard, the Panel or the whole dashboard, the Time range, the Appearance, and the Format. For Power BI, choose the Workspace, the Report, and the Page. For Looker Studio, enter the Report address and choose the Format.
- Place the Dashboard widget in a scene in the scene editor. In the Data tab of the settings window, choose your source under Source.
For Grafana, you set Time range, Appearance (Dark or Light), and Format (Landscape, Square, or Portrait) at the source, not in the widget. Looker Studio has the same Format. Choose one that fits the frame. A Power BI page appears the way it stands in the report. The steps in detail are in Connect Microsoft 365, Google, or Grafana and Create a data source and show it in a widget.
Settings
Open the settings with the gear icon on the toolbar above the widget. They are on the tabs Content, Appearance, and Data. The toolbar also offers Template and Colors, plus Image fit and Background.
| Setting | Tab | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source | Data | The view that appears as an image, such as a dashboard, a report page, or a single panel. Below it are connection, refresh, state, and Fetch now. | none |
| Show title | Content | The name of the view in one line above the image. | Off |
| Show capture time | Content | A small line with the time of the capture, such as “As of 14:20”. | On |
| Colors and Font | Appearance | Style of the app, Brand colors, or Custom colors, plus the font. See Configure widgets. | Style of the app |
| Image fit | Appearance | Fit shows the whole view with a calm margin. Fill crops at the edges so that no area stays free. | Fit |
| Background | Appearance | The surface around the image: Light, Dark, Glass, or Transparent. Dark suits most dashboards, Transparent lets a scene behind it show through. | Dark |
| Corners | Appearance | Rounded or Sharp. | Rounded |
Limits
- One image, no operation. The display shows a capture. The dashboard itself cannot be operated there.
- No live image. Szenera captures the view at the interval of the source. For Grafana, it is every 5 min, every 15 min (preset), or hourly. For Power BI and Looker Studio, it is every 15 min, hourly (preset), or daily.
- Out of date after two hours. If the capture is older than two hours, the scene editor points this out. With daily, that is the case almost all day. On the display, it stays.
- View and format belong to the source. For Grafana, so do time range and appearance. To change them, create a second source or change the existing one.
- Read-only. For Grafana, the service account needs only the Viewer role. Szenera changes nothing in your dashboards and reports.
- Power BI only with capacity. The image of a page exists only for workspaces with Premium, Embedded, or Fabric capacity. Without it, publish the report to the web and show it with the Web page app.
- Looker Studio only when shared. The report must be shared with “Anyone with the link”, so everyone who knows the link can see it.
- No access on the display. Sign-in, key, and address of your dashboard or report stay with us.
- The source stays credited. It always stands below the image and does not drop out even in small frames.
- Without an image, the area stays calm. If there is no capture, at most “View temporarily unavailable” appears on the display. Why is told only by the editor.
If something goes wrong
| Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| In the editor: No source selected yet, The selected source no longer exists, or The selected source does not provide a view | No source is chosen, the source was deleted under Data sources, or it has a different form, such as posts. | Under Source, choose a source of the type “View”, such as a Grafana dashboard, a Power BI report, or a Looker Studio report. |
| In the editor: The first capture is still to come or No capture yet | The source has not been fetched yet or has not stored an image yet. | The next fetch brings it. Under Source, Fetch now does it right away. |
| In the editor: The source is not responding right now | Grafana or the network did not answer. | Check the source under Data sources. |
| In the editor: The connection of the source needs a new sign-in | Grafana rejected the key, or Microsoft withdrew the consent for the service account. | Under Settings › Organization › Connections, choose New key at the Grafana connection or Reconnect at the Microsoft connection. |
| In the view of the source, Last error says Power BI refuses the image export | The workspace has no capacity, the service account is not in the workspace, or the export as image is turned off. | Check the steps under Release Power BI. |
| The image shows a sign-in page instead of the report | The Looker Studio report is not shared with “Anyone with the link”. | Change the sharing in Looker Studio, then click Fetch now under Source. |
| In the editor: The source is paused | Someone paused the source. | Start it again under Data sources with Resume. |
| In the editor: The image cannot be loaded | The source names an image that does not load. | It returns as soon as the source has been fetched again. |
| Above the image: Capture out of date | The capture is older than two hours. | Check the source under Data sources and click Fetch now. |
| Above the image: Source not responding, last capture, Sign-in needed, last capture, or Source paused, last capture | The source delivers nothing right now, and the image is the last capture. | Check the source under Data sources. |
| The image is cropped at the edges. | Image fit is set to Fill. | Choose Fit. |
| Title or time are missing. | Show title or Show capture time is off, or the frame is too small. | Check the switches and make the frame larger. |
| The widget cannot be inserted. | The app is not installed, an update is waiting for your decision, or it shows Not in your package. | Check the status under Apps (When an app does not run). |
