How does Szenera work?

How content gets from the portal to the TV, and what you need to get started.

On this page

You manage your content in the portal in your browser, and Szenera sends it to the TVs and monitors on site. Each display stores what it plays, so it keeps running even when the network goes down.

Three parts that work together

The portal is where you work. You upload files, design scenes, plan what runs when, and add displays. Szenera's cloud stores all of it and sends each display exactly what it needs.

The display on site is a TV or monitor with a player, a TV app, or a browser behind it. It downloads its content, plays it, and reports back whether it is running. A change you publish usually appears on the display within seconds, and the portal shows you the result.

A cycle of three parts: you publish content in the portal, the Szenera cloud sends each display its content, the display reports whether it is running, and the portal shows you the status and result.

You decide, the cloud distributes, the display reports back.

Everything you see in the portal belongs to your organization: your business with all its locations, displays, and team members. If your email address belongs to more than one organization, the portal asks which one you want to work in when you sign in.

From file to display

Content always takes the same path through the portal:

  1. Library: upload images, videos, and documents, and set up apps as app contents, such as the weather of a branch.
  2. Scenes: arrange files, app contents, and widgets such as a clock, the weather, or a news ticker in the zones of a layout. A scene reaches displays only after you publish it.
  3. Playlists: let several scenes, files, and app contents take turns, each for a set time.
  4. Programs: decide what runs when. A base program covers normal hours, and program entries take over at set times.
  5. Displays: give each display a program, or a single scene, playlist, or file directly.

A chain from the library with files and app content through the scene and the optional playlist to the program, and through the assignment on the display to the TV or monitor on site. Files, scenes, and playlists can also be assigned directly.

Files, scenes, and playlists go into a program, or straight to a display.

Only three things are required: content, a paired display, and an assignment on that display. Playlists and programs save work once you have more content, but you can start without them. For a first test, assign a single image directly to a display. Some apps get their data from a source that you set up first under Data sources.

What you need

What What is enough
An account A work email address. You don't need an invitation or payment details.
A TV or monitor Any TV or monitor with a free HDMI input, in landscape or portrait. A consumer TV works. For long daily hours, a professional display is built to last.
A player, a TV app, or a browser Today, a computer, tablet, smart TV, or Fire TV stick with a current browser works as a web display. Our own Player Lite and our TV apps are on their way. You can register your interest in the player under Billing.
A network A network cable or Wi-Fi. You don't need a keyboard or mouse.
Time About 15 minutes for the first display.

Every package includes web displays and playback without a network. You pay per display, not per device. Under Settings › Organization › Billing, you see how many displays your contract covers.

What follows

  • You do everything in the portal. Nothing needs to be operated on the device itself.
  • You see only your own organization. If an area or a button is missing, your role or your package doesn't include it.
  • No player yet? Start with a browser as a web display.
  • If the network goes down, each display keeps playing the content it has stored.
