Switch on advertising
Advertising does not appear in the portal, and you want to switch it on or off as an owner or check what a first booking still lacks.
- For
- Owners who want to offer ad slots on their displays
- Prerequisite
- the Owner role: By default, the permission Switch features on and off rests with this role alone. Advertising itself is open to every package. Direct business with your own advertisers needs the Premium package.
- Where in the portal
- Settings › Organization › Features
On this page
At the end, advertising appears in your portal: in the sidebar, in playlists, in analytics, and in the roles. Before that, it is off and nowhere to be seen.
Advertising is a beta offer. It needs several details in place and concerns only organizations that use it. That is why the owner switches it on before it appears anywhere. The server follows suit: While advertising is off, it also rejects every request of advertising.
Steps
- Open Settings through your user card at the bottom left and choose the Features area in the Organization group. The page starts with the sentence “Some features are still being built. They appear in the portal only once the owner switches them on.” Advertising stands there as a card with the Beta badge and the state Switched off.
- Click Switch on. A dialog opens.
- Read what changes (This changes:): The sidebar gets the Advertising area, playlists get ad breaks, analytics shows ad campaigns and proofs, and the roles show the permissions for advertising. Below it stands what to settle first (To settle first:): the ad space of your displays, the audience of your locations, and an approved creative.
- Read the beta notice, tick I have read the beta notice., and click Switch on. The confirmation reads Advertising is switched on.
The notice carries a version (Version …). Szenera records the version you confirm in the change log. If the notice has changed while the dialog was open, the server rejects switching on: “The beta notice has changed. Please read it again and confirm it.”
Options
The Ad network area in the settings
Once advertising is switched on, the Ad network area appears under Settings › Organization. It has three parts:
- Status with the day it was switched on, Open advertising, and Switch off.
- Ready for the first booking: A list that names what a first booking still lacks, with the way to each item. It checks Ad space per display, Audience per location, and An approved creative, and with direct business also An advertiser. When everything is there, it says “All set. You can book your first campaign.”
- Network participation: the decision about the ad network, see Join the ad network. It stands here and no longer as a tab in advertising: Consent and settlement are a decision of the organization.
Switch advertising off
Click Switch off, in the card of advertising under Features or in the Ad network area. The prompt says what happens: Booked campaigns are paused and the participation in the ad network ends. Nothing is deleted, neither advertisers nor creatives, bookings, ad space, or audience. After that, advertising disappears from the portal. When you switch it on again, you resume the campaigns and agree to the network again.
Organizations with existing advertising
An organization that already kept advertisers, ad campaigns, ad spaces, or a network participation before this change was switched on automatically with the changeover, so that running campaigns do not break away.
Check the result
- The sidebar shows Advertising, and under Settings › Organization, the Ad network area stands with the list Ready for the first booking.
- Under Features, the card of advertising shows Switched on and “Since …”.
- In a playlist, the sequence offers Ad break again, and analytics has the Proofs view under What ran?.
If something goes wrong

|---|---|---|
| The Switch on button is grayed out. | Your account lacks the permission Switch features on and off. | Ask an Owner. |
| “The beta notice has changed. Please read it again and confirm it.” | The notice was adjusted while the dialog was open. | Read the notice again, tick the box again, and click Switch on. |
| The page says “Advertising is not switched on”. | Someone opened a link into advertising while it is off. | Switch it on under Features, or ask an Owner. |
| Advertising is switched on but does not appear in the sidebar. | Your account lacks the permission to see ad campaigns. | An Owner grants View ad campaigns: Permissions by role. |
| That could not be changed. | Switching on or off did not go through. | Try again. If it stays that way, try later. |
