# Which hardware do you need?

Every display needs a TV or monitor and something that plays the content: our player, a TV app, or a browser. Choose a professional display for long daily hours or a sunny shop window, and start with a web display to try Szenera on hardware you already have.

> **Type:** concept
> **For:** everyone planning displays for a new location or replacing hardware
> **Prerequisite:** none

## The TV or monitor

| Question | Our recommendation |
|---|---|
| Consumer TV or professional display? | A consumer TV works and costs less. If the display runs all day, every day, choose a professional display: it is built for continuous operation. |
| Shop window | Sunlight on the glass washes out a normal TV. For a window facing the street, choose a high-brightness display made for windows. |
| Size | The farther away people stand, the larger the display and the text need to be. Check the size where the display will hang, from where your customers actually stand. |
| Landscape or portrait | Both work. Portrait suits menus, posters, and narrow walls. Check that the manufacturer allows portrait mounting, because not every consumer TV does. |
| Connections | A free HDMI input. To switch the TV on and off from Szenera, it should support HDMI-CEC, which manufacturers call Anynet+, SimpLink, or Bravia Sync, for example. |

## The player, app, or browser

| Option | Good for | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Player Lite | One display per location, all day. It starts on its own, updates itself, and can be maintained remotely. | Announced, not available yet. Video up to Full HD. |
| Player Pro | Two displays from one device, or video in 4K. | Announced, not available yet. |
| Fire TV app | A Fire TV stick you already have. | Not in the Amazon Appstore yet, so use the stick's browser as a web display for now. No remote maintenance. |
| Web display | Trying Szenera, or a computer, tablet, or smart TV you already have. | No remote maintenance. Whether it starts again after a power cut depends on the device. |

A display shows content in Full HD by default. 4K output needs the Pro package or higher.

## The network

A network cable is the most reliable connection. Wi-Fi works with a password-protected or an open network. Guest networks with a sign-in page and company networks that need a personal login don't work, because nobody can type at the player. [Network requirements for your IT](/devices/network-requirements) lists what your IT needs to allow.

## What follows

- Start small: one TV and one image. You can add displays at any time.
- Plan a power outlet and, if possible, a network socket right behind the display.
- If your IT manages the network, send them the network requirements before the installation day.
- Note the serial number of each player before you mount it, because support asks for it.
