# Posts from X

The app “Posts from X” brings the latest posts of an account on X to your displays, such as your own or your city’s. It brings no widget, and the Posts app shows the posts.

> **Type:** app
> **For:** anyone who designs scenes and wants to show posts of an account on X
> **Prerequisite:** the booked and installed app (an Owner does both), the **Manage data sources** permission, and the right to edit scenes. The app is an add-on and is not part of any package.
> **Where in the portal:** **Apps** › **Discover apps** › **Posts from X**. You create the source afterward under **Data sources** with **Create source**.

## What the app shows

This app brings no widget. Its installation unlocks the kind **Posts on X** under **Data sources**. The posts are shown by the app [Posts](/apps/posts), which reads any source of the form **Posts**. Szenera reads with its own access at X. You connect no account and store no key.

A post appears with its text as the headline, its first image, the name of the account, and the time. A code leads to the post on X. New posts arrive at the refresh interval of the source. Once a day, the source matches everything, so a post deleted on X also disappears from the displays.

Two examples: A town hall shows the latest posts of its account as a **List** at the citizens’ office. A café puts its own posts in the entrance with the **Post** template.

## Set up the source

The posts live in a source. You create it once, and after that every Posts widget chooses it from the list.

1. Open the listing of **Posts from X** and click **Book and install**. An Owner does this ([Install or book an app](/apps/install-app)).
2. Under **Data sources**, use **Create source** and choose **Posts on X** under **Posts**.
3. Search for the **Account on X** by its name, with or without @, and choose it from the list. Turn on **Include replies** if you want them.
4. Check the **Name**, choose the **Refresh**, and click **Create**.
5. Place the **Posts** widget in a scene and choose your source under **Source**.

The steps in detail are in [Create a data source and show it in a widget](/content/create-data-source). How the posts look, you set in the widget, see [Posts](/apps/posts).

## Settings

The settings belong to the source, not to the app.

| Setting | Meaning | Default |
|---|---|---|
| **Account on X** | The account whose posts the source reads. You search for it by its name, with or without @. | – |
| **Include replies** | Also show the replies of the account to other posts. Reposts always stay out. | off |
| **Refresh** | How often the source asks for new posts: **hourly** or **daily**. | **hourly** |

> **Tip:** An hourly source needs about 720 fetches a month. If you show several accounts, choose **daily** for the less important ones, so the fetch limit lasts all month.

## Limits

- *Add-on with a fetch limit:* X charges for every post read. Szenera counts the fetches per organization and month, 1,000 at most. Every fetch counts, including **Fetch now** and the sample. Once the limit is reached, the displays keep the last state until the next month begins.
- *Public accounts only:* A protected account cannot be found or read.
- *Replies only on request:* Reposts never appear.
- *Images stay with us:* Szenera copies the image of a post, so a display never loads anything from X.
- *The latest posts only:* A source keeps at most 20 posts, and the Posts app shows up to 12 of them.
- *No fetches without the app:* After uninstalling or ending the booking, the sources stay but fetch nothing.

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| When you create the source, a note says the app must be booked. | The app is not booked or not installed. | Choose **To the store** and book the app. |
| Under **Last error**, the source says it needs the app from the store. | The booking ended, or the app was uninstalled. | Book and install the app again. The source then fetches again. |
| The search does not find the account. | The name is misspelled, or the account is protected. | Check the name as it appears on X after the @. |
| The source reports that X is not set up yet. | Szenera’s access at X is missing in this environment. | Ask us. |
| The history says “provider's fetch limit reached” | The fetch limit of the month is used up. | Nothing. Fetching resumes with the next month. Fewer sources or **daily** make the limit last. |
